November 29, 2001.  W-F defeated Bonduel.  Two varsity wrestlers were unable to compete due to injuries in practice during the week.  Also the wrestlers from 135# to 160# were each bumped up a weight for competitive reasons.  The meet started with the 130# weight class.  Eric Wilson, a Sophomore, showed the fans what he could do in his first varsity match with a win over a Senior from Bonduel.  At 135#, Niles Fronczak, a Junior, filled in for an injured T.C. Bartol and pinned his opponent.  Joe Brazil, a Junior, wrestled up a weight at 140#, and was pinned by Bonduel.  Cole Bauer, Erik Mannel, Brian Loehrke, and Jordan Baitinger also moved up a weight to defeat their respective opponents, with Cole, Erik, and Brian each pinning their man.  At 189#, Dan Stuebs, a Junior, pinned Bonduel.  Freshman Kyle Tews, wrestling at 275#,  almost pinned a Junior from Bonduel as time ran out at the end of the first period, but Bonduel prevailed with a pin. Then it was back to the normal beginning.  At 103#, Freshman Tyler Wyngaard started his high school career with a pin.  Nick Zick, filling in for Jerimiah Johnson, was defeated by injury default at 112#.  Sophomore Matt Mannel pinned his opponent at 119#.  In the last match of the evening, Eric Rand, a Junior at 125#, dominated Bonduel to win by a pin.  A long way from home, but a good way to start out the wrestling season.  Weyauwega 10 wins out of 13 matches.

December 6, 2001.  W-F defeated Gillett-Suring.  The ref actually drew 103# as the starting weight class.  Tyler Wyngaard won by forfeit.  Then the bad news of the evening.  Jerimiah Johnson was wrestling a tough wrestler at 119#.  The Gillett wrestler threw Jerimiah over his hip directly unto Jerimiah's head.  Jerimiah was accidentially knocked out and the ref called a pin before he noticed that Jerimiah was out cold.  Medical assistance was called and Jerimiah was taken to the hospital in Shawano by EMTs.  According to a nurse on the scene, Jerimiah doesn't remember anything about the match.  No word yet, but we all said a little prayer for Jerimiah.  At 119# Matt Mannel decisioned a Senior 11 - 0.  Eric Rand earned a first period pin.  Eric Wilson had four takedowns enroute to a 9 - 3 decision.  Todd Bartol looked awesome and pinned a Senior in the first period.  Cole Bauer wrestled well with another pin.  Erik Mannel had the fastest pin of the night in 44 seconds.  Brian Loehrke won by forfeit.  Jordan Baitinger pinned his opponent.  The last three weight classes were won by Gillett.  Nathan Wendt, Dan Stuebs, and Joe Mielke each wrestled a good match.

Three W-F wrestlers were undefeated:  Cole Bauer, Brian Loehrke, and Erik Mannel.  Jordan Baitinger's only loss was due to default to a wrestler he almost pinned.

Brian Loehrke earned the trophy for most pins with five.  Brian moved up a weight and pinned the wrestler from Waupaca that received the 1st place medal at 160#.

December 20, 2001.  W-F wrestled a scrimmage at home against Winneconne.

Bad news:  Jordan Baitinger broke his leg.  Jordan is one of the big guns needed to do well as a team.  Jerimiah Johnson, another big gun, is still out due to his early season head injury suffered 12/06/01.

Good news:  W-F did well as a team.  The unofficial score was W-F 85 and Winneconne 60.  Winneconne is a good Division II team in the East Central Conference and has a number of wrestlers expected to do well on the way to State competition.

Bartol, Cole Bauer, Brian Loehrke, and Nathan Wendt were undefeated for the day.
